Preventing Workplace Cancers

Preventing Workplace Cancers

While cancer is a top killer in our society, it is a topic most don’t want to talk about, and is rarely mentioned in the context of workplace safety. This is a short awareness course which endeavors to bring some clarity to the topic in the context of discussing realistic concerns, products and processes to treat with caution, and makes practical suggestions for preventing long-term cancers that could originate in the workplace. De-mystifying this topic relieves the fear and can promote a natural adoption of prevention strategies.

By the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Describe cancer
  • Discuss cancer growth trends
  • Define ‘carcinogen’
  • Recognize IARC carcinogen classifications
  • Recognize general categories of carcinogens
  • Recognize the three most deadly workplace carcinogens
  • Describe the danger of asbestos
  • Outline strategies for protecting yourself

Workplaces benefit both directly and indirectly from improved worker awareness as this secretive issue is brought out into the open.  Better training results in improved staff confidence and workplace morale, lowered accident and absenteeism rates, and can result in a rise in trust and loyalty amongst staff.

Students proceed through self-paced and graphical, narrated lessons and a final quiz. Quiz results are automatically scored and stored for management reference. For multiple enrollments, the Simply! Tracking program provides managers with access to completion data, batch certificate printing, expiry notifications, and training done and training due reports.
